My Driving PlayList!

I realize there might be a certain number of my readers who don't even know what this is and wonder what language I am speaking when I say 'Mix Tape'.  That's ok.  It's what we now call a 'Playlist'.  For those mature enough to know what I am talking about...was there anything better than a mix tape from a boy?  Remember rushing home from school, locking yourself in your room, and hugging a pillow while every emotion he had for you poured out of your speakers?  I always wondered what he meant by each song he chose...now I know all it meant is he had a cool stereo!  In fact, I don't even think I can remember his name...

Everyone's favourite Social Climber and I got to talking and decided we would post our playlists for the world to see.  I decided to transcribe my driving playlist as I don't very often get to listen to it.  Usually I have menfolk in the car or I am going a short distance and it's not worth trying to listen to some quality tunes.

Wicked Soundtrack
Downton Abbey Soundtrack
Les Miz Soundtrack
Miss Saigon Soundtrack
Breakfast at Tiffany's - Moxy Fruvous (The title makes me cringe but it's a great song!)
Perfect Day - Susan Boyle
March of the Black Queen - Queen
Blame It On My Youth - Holly Cole
Stronger - Kanye West
Flashing Lights - Kanye West
Gold Digger - Kanye West
Dimestore Diamond - Gossip
Chasing Pavements - Adele (When the Little Prince was ittybitty this song would calm him...if he cried in the car I would put it on and he would stop!  As soon as it ended he would cry again.  A couple of weeks ago I played it in the car and insisted we listen to it again!)
Mack The Knife - Bobby Darin
Amanda - Boston
Sartorial Eloquence - Elton John (I am always reminded of Maxminimus when I hear this one)
Turn The Lights Out When You Leave - Elton John (His one country song!)
Princess - Elton John (For obvious reasons)
Fame - Irene Cara
Material Girl - Madonna
Say Goodbye to Hollywood - Billy Joel (The best karaoke song ever!)
Scenes From an Italian Restaurant - Billy Joel
New York State of Mind - Billy Joel
Empire State of Mind - Alicia Keys
I Want Candy - Bow Wow Wow
I Wanna be a Cowboy - Boys Don't Cry (So sue me, I'm a product of the 80s)
One Night in Bangkok - Chess Soundtrack
Money Can't Buy You Class - Countess Luanne
Glasgow Love Theme - Love Actually Soundtrack (This is 'our song')
Rock Me Amadeus - Falco
Only You - Flying Pickets (Sung at the top of my lungs, dancing with a friend of my date at a wedding in 1999...slightly tipsy *hic*  ahhhh memories)
La Vie En Rose - Louis Armstrong
Major Tom - Peter Schilling (Met his cousin who was duly impressed to see this on my ipod)
In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins
You Know What I Mean - Phil Collins
Synchronicity II - The Police
Reet Petite - Rickie Wilson (Very fun song!  Check it out on Youtube)
I'll Keep Coming Home - Runrig
Relax - Frankie Goes to Hollywood (Live those dreams, scheme those schemes!)
Fire Burning - Sean Kingston
For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her - Simon & Garfunkel
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Puttin' On The Ritz - Taco
They Dont Know - Tracy Ullman
Miss Sarajevo - U2 (I had a soldier penpal in Sarajevo 15 years ago, this always reminds me of him)

and....

My very, very very favouritest song ever...one I have loved since I was 12 years old and still gives me goosebumps whenever I hear the first note....

(The actual video starts around 30 seconds in)

So, Carrie Bradshaw Preston, you can keep your ever mine, ever thine.  With lyrics like...

I'll protect you from the hooded claw, keep the vampires from your door
When the chips are down I'll be around with my undying, death-defying love for you

Envy will hurt itself.  Let yourself be beautiful, s
parkling love, flowers, and pearls and pretty girls

...I will take Frankie Goes to Hollywood anytime!

Your play list includes a lot of my favorite songs too... The last time I got a mixed tape was 1992. My then boyfriend, now husband, put it together for me as a gift. He included with it a story telling all the reasons he chose the songs he did. It is the sweetest gift he's ever given me. I still have the tape but the story is missing.

I never got a mix tape from a boy :(
But I made plenty for my friends.
Some of your songs I have not heard...will have to look them up on iTunes.

What an amazingly diverse playlist! And here I was thinking I had thought up the concept of exchanging music tapes with a boyfriend - particularly when long distance... My internet connection just now is really lousy and it may be awhile before I am able to get fully caught up with my 'social networking'. Just to let you know you're not forgotten...

Sadly, I know exactly what this is and have had many "in my day!" :) Great list! I'll be adopting many for my iPod ~ thanks.
