A walk in the garden - Part 2

Here is part 2 of my garden photos!

You just can see some purple grapes growing under the leaves.

A rogue pumpkin!

Another rogue!

The veggie patch is full by August!

Another rogue...we kept finding them everywhere thanks to the compost!

The pumpkin plants grow to be huge!  You can see why they have to be kept under control!

I love the vines growing over my 'Secret Garden' door!

More vines growing over the canopy - they bloomed hundreds of white and purple flowers!

So pretty!  Makes me feel all Ivy League!

These flowers are amazing!

It's not just pumpkins!  We had a rogue carrot too - it won 3rd place at the fall fair!

A walk around the garden - Part 1

Every year the Suburban Prince works hard to get the gardens looking spectacular.  When we bought this house it was a disaster...we bought it from nasty WT so that should tell the tale.  Over the years we have added more and more plants and flowers and have a great time harvesting all of the berries we grow!

A raspberry busy full of ripe berries!

Blueberries - a favourite!

Grape plants!

I have no idea what this is but it was already starting to turn red!

This is where the little chipmunk lives!  See the little hole?

These flowers are as big as plates!

Blackberries...it's hard to get a lot of them in the house as they get eaten while in the pool!

Grow berries and your children will eat them!

Spaghetti squash ripening!
We grow our squash so it hangs down rather than sitting on the ground.

Same with pumpkins!  This gives them nice shape and keeps them from taking over the entire yard.

Part 2 will be posted tomorrow!

Anniversary Flowers

Do't forget my ribbon giveaway at Royal Ribbons!!  It ends on Friday and all it takes is a comment to win!

I have started answering comments in the comments section - so please look there for my replies to you!

High Heeled Life - who never forgets an anniversary - sent us a beautiful arrangement for our 8th one a few weeks ago.  It came with a box of chocolates but as you can well imagine, they didn't last long enough to take photos.  Thank you so very much HHL!  You always remember the important dates and are so kind to send lovely flowers and gifts!

I should also make mention of the beautiful pink and green flowers the Suburban Prince brought home on our anniversary - I just forgot to take photos of them!  Thank you handsome husband!

The View From Here!

I was driving home one afternoon and saw a big yellow field!  Of course I had to stop and investigate...

This is a farm on the road between towns...

...with a field full of sunflowers!!  I drove past them this week and the heads are all bowing, heavy with seeds!

I have grown sunflowers in the past and a great way to use the heads is to stack them then run heavy string like jute through them (just like adding beads to a string) then hang them up around your backyard or garden.  All winter long the birds will have seeds they can peck at and in the spring just toss the empty heads in your compost bin.

A walk around the garden!

Happy Friday!  My random thoughts will return next Friday - I wanted to get this post up for NewEnglandGirl who just planted pumpkins!

Please also read the post below - we are getting very interesting comments and I would love to know what everyone thinks!

I took a walk around my garden the other day and it is so nice to see how everything is coming along!  Our raspberry bushes are huge and the Little Prince loves to run down there and pick them!  He loves the darkest sweetest ones!  He is so interested in the fruit and vegetables and I am very happy he will be able to see where they come from!

Click the photos to see larger views....

We have these climbing the corners of the gazebo!

Beautiful!

Niagara Rainbow Roses!

Blackberries galore!
The bush is falling over it is so heavy with fruit!

A tiny little pumpkin working on being a jack-o-lantern!

Another baby pumpkin climbing the lattice!

A pumpkin vine!

We (ok the Suburban Prince) used twoxtwos and lattice to erect something the pumpkins could climb up rather than cover the entire back yard.  In the background you can see the compost bin - everyone here composts and recycles since actually have to pay for each bag of garbage we put out.  The thing at the top is a wasp deterant - they think another clan has already taken up residence and they move on.

A tomato destined for it's turn in a sandwich!

A tiny cherry tomato!
