How will I survive?
Happy Monday! I am writing this post on Sunday because at this moment I have no power at all at my house. No internet, no puter, no blow dryer, no phone, no tv, no kettle, no toaster oven, no laundry, no hoover...nothing. Everything I do depends on electricity! So I am spending today (Sunday) getting everything done to make Monday tolerable. The Suburban Prince told me to tell you not to worry that I havnt been on twitter, facebook and email all day...there's no need to call the FBI or anything.
If the situation is dire I might pop out to McDs or Sbux to use their wifi for an hour (or 4). I will miss you all but hopefully I will be back online on Monday night! And back to work! All in all it's the next step in the renovations in the basement...the electrician we hire in March (!!!) never finished the job and put us months behind...I thought we would at least have drywall by now! Sooooo I can suffer for the cause for one day.
I hope you had a faboo weekend! On Friday I went to see Hairspray with Hermes Scarf Friend - she got us comp tickets from work so we got to see it for free! We had 4th row seats and it was nice to be so close. After the show there was a cocktail reception - we got to mingle with the cast and rub elbows with some of the a-list of town.
On Saturday we went to a 'party' at the home of a guy the Suburban Prince grew up with. It turns out he lives 15 minutes from us way out in the country. It was a bit of a surprise to see there were only about 8 adults and maybe 25 teenagers...I didnt realize it was meant to be a kids' party. We stayed for a couple of hours and then headed home. The Suburban Prince said it was nice to see some of the guys he knew in school and hasnt seen for 20 years or so but I was bored out of my mind. Here's a question for you...have you ever been invited to a party you had to bring your own chairs, booze and a dish for the food table? What do we think of this? Is this ok when it's a group of people who have known each other for years and get together a lot? How about when it's the first time you have been invited to someone's house?
On Sunday I did some errands and got caught up on emails then spent an hour in the pool. It was a bit overcast so we kept our swimming short and got on with productive things.

I vote you read a book, I've read so many this summer and they have been great - The Help was my favorite :)

Oh, I loved "The Help," too. Can't wait to see the movie!
The clique of girls/guys I hung out with in HS still get together all the time (not me). Honestly, I think it's a little weird. They really can't function without one another. It's just as it was 25 years ago. Caddy.
I've never in my "old age" been invited to a party where I pretty much had to bring everything. No. I think it's weird.
Hope you survive your outage! :)
No power! That stinks. We went without power for 50-something hours last spring due to a storm. At least you can prepare for it - still stinks though.
That is so tacky that they would ask you to bring all of that - especially your own chairs! And you are "new" friends, in a way. I would never ask people to do that unless we were all camping together in the woods somewhere.
Hope to see you back on line soon!
I think that a book would be a great choice...
and in answer to your question about bringing your own chairs, food and beverages?
Maybe that's the way things are done in "the country" but I think it's a bit cheeky.
Hope that your powerless day does not last too long...
I don't need to recommend you read a book as we had a chat about reading on Twitter recently, and I know what a bookworm you are.
As for the "bring-your-own-party" party; I think I would have declined the invitation, unless they were really close friends (which clearly they weren't.
I hope you get the "net" back along with other little luxuries.
As for the "bring your own" party I have been to a few, they have generally been thrown by people with little cash to entertain "properly". While it's not my preferred way to attend a party, I generally don't mind.
For me, reading a book and taking a nap rank right up there at 1st and 2nd place!
I know exactly how you feel about not having Internet. I returned home from a wonderful 3 day weekend in Orlando only to discover that my MacBook won't work. I think I will be catching up on my reading this week.
wow! so exciting!! i will be emailing you now!
Oh my goodness, I know how awful it is to try doing things without electricity and an internet connection! Earlier this summer, a huge storm left my neighborhood without power for a couple days and we were all so thankful when it finally came back on! Good luck to you and I hope power returns to your house soon! XO

Hi
Hope you are back on-line now, and enjoying life.
In the south, there are two types of parties that are sort of similar, and I think they kind of were "birthed" from the Southern Baptist church potluck where everyone brings a dish to share in the fellowship hall after a Sunday service.
Sometimes, neighborhoods will have a pig-picking, and the host family will do a BBQ (you know, in the south, BBQ is a noun) and people from the neighborhood would attend, and bring a side dish to share, their own drink, chairs to sit in the yard, but it usually a very large crowd. People attend in other to just gather. RSVPs are not even needed.
Some friends from our college days, who we rarely see, host a big beer party in their yard for Octoberfest. It's huge. I think they invite everyone they have come across since their college days. People bring a dessert, appetizer or side as southern hospitality, and their chairs to sit in, and they supply the alcohol, and a DJ.
I cannot imagine life without internet... I would be in BIG trouble!!! My artwork RELIES on internet!!!
I panic when the Internet goes down. Ha!
I guess it depends what type of party it is. I've been to plenty of cookouts at family members' and family friends' where we've been asked to bring folding chairs. Most people don't have outdoor seating for 25 at the ready. Of course, if it is a more formal party (like a birthday or graduation) you might expect the hosts to rent chairs and tables.
