Pink & Green Thursday!

A while back I saw Miss Janice's tweet about entering a 5K.  We all know that means....running.  I told her I was surprised she could do that since wine glasses dont come with lids.  Yes, I know I am terribly funny.  Miss Janice told me it wouldn't be a problem as she already has a wine glass with a lid.

Huh?  You can imagine the response, several of us HAD to see this wine glass!

How cute is it!?  A mason jar turned into a goblet!

Imagine my surprise when I went outside and saw a big box on my front step - Miss Janice sent me one for my birthday!  How sweet!  She even tied a perfect pink and green ribbon around the...errr...stem?  Handle?  Grip?  I know I am going to be the envy of everyone at the next cocktail party!

Miss Janice also sent me a cookbook called White Trash Cooking which to be honest, had me a teensie bit nervous - but it includes one of my most favourite, irresistable dishes that for all of my healthy living and eating I just cant pry myself away from...5 Cup Salad.  Dreadful I know...but there is just something about this sweet, fruity, creamy bowl of goodness/badness that just makes me so happy!  It tastes simple.  Like simpler times.  It tastes like life before cell phones, before internet, before 500 channels, before we were rushing everywhere and before the need for instant gratification.  It tastes like childhood.

It really is best served in a vintage pyrex dish so you really feel like you are sitting in your childhood kitchen while you eat it.

5 Cup Salad

1 cup marshmallows
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 cup mandarin oranges
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup sour cream

Mix all together and refrigerate.

Thank you again Miss Janice for the wonderful birthday present!!

Have a fabulous day!

I love Ambrosia salad and usually make it once or twice during the summer. I mix half sour cream and half vanilla pudding. I got a bunch of Mexican students hooked on it last year! Bad Mama!

I love, love this post.

I didn't know about Miss Janice, but I"m hopping right over now to meet her.

You are so funny....wine glass with a lid. I'm still laughing over that one.

My grandma served that same dish. My dad made it, too.

Thanks for sharing this delicious post filled with humor and fun.

I think I need one of those wine glasses - you know me and my wine. Maybe they would catch on here in the Sonoma Valley?

Somehow the thought of you holding this wine glass strikes me as funny...
the salad however is perfect for a summer BBQ!

That mason jar looks like it could hold a LOT of wine. Hmmm...why didn't I think of this before?!
I didn't know what 5-cup salad was until I saw the recipe--my mom called it Ambrosia Salad. All the same white-trash goodness, but you can make it sound fancy at your next cocktail party!

The mason jar wine goblet is just too cute! And a cover would actually come in handy for deterring bugs at an outdoor party :)

I actually had a signed copy of that cookbook that disappeared after a party at my house. Now I never know what to do with my "Government Cheese".
