Wicked Photos

We went to see Wicked in Toronto on October 27th and I managed to sneak a few photos while we were waiting. Someone took a photo with the flash on very close to us which ruined it for anyone else who wanted to take photos as the ushers were on high alert and searching for people with cameras.  So, a word of advice, take your photos without the flash and hope for the best!

The curtain was sparkly and glowing!

A huge dragon overlooked the stage!

Everytime I tried to take a photo someone stood up!

The center of the curtain - beautiful!

Isn't this just a delightful example of what people wear to the theatre these days?

Now, I'm not a religious person...the theatre is my church.  These people work very hard for months on end - everyone from the person who sews buttons on costumes to the star of the show and everyone in between.  And you know what?  None of them are getting rich at this.  Every day they put all they've got into bringing you, the audience, the performance of a lifetime and for many it might be the only time they see any particular show as not everyone can afford to spend over 100.00 a seat to see a show twice.  Every person involved knows this and they make sure your experience is a memorable one because they respect the audience.  Without the audience the show is nothing.  So please, I beg of you, show respect for these people who have poured their heart and soul into the next two hours and wear something appropriate.  Just like you would for church/shull/temple.  Yoga clothes do not fall into the 'appropriate' category.

Have a fabulous day!

I wish more people followed this advice! The "pajama-ization" of America is soooo annoying!

It does look like loads of fun, and I wholeheartedly endorse your "show respect" initiative!

My mom, sister, and I saw this on Broadway in July and it was fabulous! We were all dressed accordingly as well ;) I do remember seeing some sloppy people strolling by though, no bueno.

Makes you just want to slap someone. Well I guess that would be illegal, but still!

The casual clothes don't bother me as much since I go to the theatre in NYC like most people do the movies. What really blows my mind is the fact that you can now purchase snacks just as you would at the movies and eat them during the show. Can you imagine listening to Defying Gravity while the people behind you smack their popcorn? Its so annoying at $126.50/ticket!

i cannot believe that girl was wearing THAT.... i can still remember getting all dressed up to see wicked (gray and black strip dress and black cardigan, and that was wayyyyy back in 2005, when i was a younger kiddo!). and then i cried my eyes out because i had forgotten to pack my pumps and had to wear flipflops. c'est la vie!

No one here ever dresses for the theatre, I always look so overdone but I've learned to live with folk look at me oddly!

Well said, Princess. Happily, here in the small town South, folks are still dressing up--for the most part. The touring production of Wicked was here last spring, and 90 percent of people dressed. The other 10 percent are too dull to realize that by not dressing (by not caring, really) that they're missing out on part of the entire experience. To dress, to enjoy a bite before someplace special, to see the show, and then to have a coffee or drink afterward is so lovely.

I certainly agree with you SP!! The ARTS should feel more like a special occassion, privilege and honour to experience. I'm not suggesting one needs to put on a gown to attend (though a step back to in time, that wwhen a gown was theatre attire would be great).

Then again some of the people in the photo are better dressed than people I saw at church this summer. xo HHL

I have been wanting to see Wicked for a couple of years now. When/if I get to go see it, I will probably buy a new dress. I can't believe that woman's outfit. To quote a friend's mother, "Some people have no idea what is appropriate".

Looks like fun!
And how do you not wear the correct attire to an event you know you are going too.

I saw wicked last time it was in Toronto and loooved it! It's probably my favorite broadway show with Spring Awakening coming in a close second.

Also, I wish people still dressed up all fancy for the theatre like in the old days. It was so much more glamorous!

I totally agree. It seems people just don't know what is appropriate for many situations nowadays. I travel frequently and can't believe how many people fly in Lululemon - don't get me wrong. I love my Lulu's, for the gym.

I've been wanting to go see that forever! I'm jealous! And I hate that you can never take pictures in a theater. I mean, I get it...but I still hate it.

It may comfort you to know that when my friend went to see this they dressed up and everyone around was. The south still follows the rules around here. But I could not agree more!!! Love the pics.

I love, love, LOVE Wicked!

The way people dress at the theatre now days amazes me. I comment about it to my husband, friend, whoever I'm with every single time I go. It's like people don't even try anymore.

We saw Wicked in L.A. and just loved it. I even came home & downloaded some of the songs off iTunes. Glad to hear you liked it! By the way, we dressed for the theater just like we do here at home & people were staring at us like we were aliens. I still believe in dressing up to *go out* unless we're *slumming* and going to a dive somewhere.
