I've just heard the news - Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48. Her music was my soundtrack of the Winter of 1985. She got us through crushes, school dances and went on to make one of my favourite movies.
I love The Preacher's Wife and when we visited a very pretty small town one afternoon, I said it reminds me of the movie. I longed to live in a small community with a quaint backdrop. We ended up moving to that small town and I never forgot that moment, standing in the middle of the town park....
I can only thank Whitney for inspiring the life I have now.
I can remember so vividly seeing The Bodyguard. All these years later I can still remember exactly who I was with, which theatre we went to, how I felt about where I was in my life. Strange to think that a movie is a marker in my life.
In fact...when I think about it....her music and movies have consitently marked moments in my life and for that, I thank her.
RIP Whitney - You died too young, you will be missed.

Crazy news!
What a tragic waste of life. Her ex was truly toxic for her.
On a different note, I'll meet up with you in Edinburgh if you're over in May.
A terrible tragedy, especially since her last years were so troubled. Hopefully now she can be at peace.
I think we must be about the same age. I was a teen in the eighties (1985 HS graduate) and grew-up with Whitney's music. It's all so tragic and sad. If you haven't already watched it, YouTube her 1991 National Anthem Superbowl performance. Gives me goosebumps every time.
I remember her music, but wasn't a fan. I have never seen her movies and can't say she had any influence in my life. That said, she was incredibly talented and it's a tragic loss for the industry.
Like Wendy, I recall her music but I wasn't a fan. I never saw any of her movies except for Waiting to Exhale. But I do think her voice is/was incredible and that no one can match her ability to belt out a tune.
She was a beautiful woman...beautiful and troubled. It's very tragic. I was flabbergasted that she was only 48! I had no idea she was so young. It's seems like she was around forever.
we were just talking about something else that happened in 1985... what was it? A good year it was indeed!
I think I'm a bit older than you (born 1956) but I loved The Bodyguard and I will look for The Preacher's Wife. I've long meant to watch Waiting to Exhale... The thing that amazes me is she had all that beauty, talent, wealth and personal warmth and she still got into such trouble and died young. I never understood her attraction to Brown and he sure didn't turn out to be good for her. It does make you think whether all those gifts that we could envy aren't necessarily enough to give a person the contentment and wisdom that we all need to make good choices and live well. Her death really is a sad loss to the world.
OMG I was in such shock when I heard the news Saturday. Like you I can vividly remember so many things like her video to I want to dance with somebody and then her song "I Will Always Love You" from the Body Gaurd. RIP Whitney you will be missed.

Great Whitney tribute!
Such an amazing talent...it's a shocker that she's gone.
