Our Annual Boat Race

Would you believe it has taken me a month to get this blogged?  Every year our town has a race down the river that runs right through the middle of it.  It is to commemorate a flood that all but destroyed the town in 1983 and whenever it's a nice day for the race we head down to watch it.  It is always the first weekend in April and some years it has been affected by snow, Easter and rain...but this year it was a gorgeous sunny day!

People line the river for several kilometers!

Participants use all sorts of boats!

Teams of all sizes enter!

The Crazy Crafts are always the most fun to watch!

These tiny kayaks looked a bit wobbly!

This was the coach yelling instructions and protecting her.
There were lots of boats coming down the river.

She got out safely and floated the rest of the way.
The ice had just melted, let's not even think about how cold the water was!

I loved this one!  Do you think it came from Bedrock?

This boat was the Sons of Scotland team.

*sigh* Everyone wants to be Scottish.

Have a fabulous day!

This looks like such a fun time. My personal favs are the Scottish ones, but I'm sure there were lots of choices to get your attention.

That looks like so much fun, but those people are CRAZY :) Much better to be bundled up watching from the sidelines.

That Bedrock canoe is super cool! Wonder if they used Flintstone power to make it :P
