The fortune cookie knows best

Happy Friday!!!  Thank you to everyone who entered my Valentine's day giveaway!  We had over 100 entries!  The winner has been drawn.....Beth Dunn!  Congratulations!  Send me your mailing address and I will get your prize sent out right away!

I had lunch at the Thai restaurant with Hermes Scarf Friend a few weeks ago and we got to talking about the state of the relationship with her husband.  The jist of the conversaton was me suggesting she make an effort to make her husband happy.  Sometimes we need to put aside our own desires, love is putting someone else's happiness ahead of your own.  Imagine if we all went through life with the simple goal of making those around us happy?

I told her about times I have done something I really didnt want to do but I knew it would make the Suburban Prince happy and in the end it made him more willing to do things I enjoy.  HSF's husband never goes to anything with her and they tend to lead fairly separate lives.  I suggested she include him more, factor in his desires and see what the result is.  Be the spouse she wishes she had.

When we got the bill the waitress brought us fortune cookies....mine is the one on the top, HSF's is on the bottom.

People appreciate your leadership qualities.

Be content with your lot.  One cannot be first in everything

Have a fabulous day!

I'm sure you have heard that saying "Happy wife, happy life." Isn't it the same for husbands? I know when I can make my husband happier by doing something I don't want to - like watching action movies, or yard work - it always makes me happier in the end.

Great post, Princess.

See now I am going to respectfully disagree with HSF's fortune... after many years of coming in second and settling I have decided that no one should settle or come in second. I am too important. My life is too important.

I do love the 'be content" one, that is such a good message, and always so timely.

Sending you a smile Miss Princess,

EntertainingMom...We shouldnt always put ourselves last, but when putting ourselves first every single time becomes selfish and excludes a spouse from our life, it's time to re-assess. Sometimes we just have to put someone else's happiness ahead of our own to let them know they are loved.

Wise advice today. Also, I laughed when you said you have been in the car, and thought you left your son. I've done that as well. Crazy lives we lead.

Great advise. And what perfect fortunes.

I got a fortune during the holidays that was 'Patience leads to progress'. So true.
Making myself a priority certainly doesn't come naturally. I'm uber-focused on our kids, my hub, our friends and family, work. It takes an effort...and patience.
Our youngest just turned 10 and it's only been the last year that I have really made time for myself before others. Feels great now, felt like a luxury then.

Yes, I think we need to be more than roommates with not only our husbands but our kids too. And now I have a craving for a fortune cookie - or any cookie at all :) XOL

I love it when the Fortune Cookie knows best. It's always wonderful to get gentle reminders that are needed.

Great advice. It frustrates me to hear people say if you do something like that, you're sacrificing yourself. (And yes, I've been told that before)

fortune cookies are always my favorite part of a meal at a chinese restaurant. Especially when they say something you had already been thinking about!
