Friday's Random Thoughts!

Since I enjoyed this so much last time I thought I would do it again!

- I saw Eclipse last night.  I think I left a few brain cells in the theatre.

- We have been watching Mad Men from the beginning and as much as I think life was simpler - it seems no one was happy in 1962!  There isn't one single character who isn't miserable or cheating on his wife.  I admit I dont actually like Don Draper but then one has to wonder if Betty Draper has any redeeming qualities.  It's obvious why he cheats - what he wants isn't attractive to him and what he is attracted to isn't what he wants.  Notice the one quality all of his 'mistresses' share?  Not one of them would let Don Draper push them around.  All of these women are strong and he finds that very very attractive.

- Remember when we were kids and our own personal safety was number one and we were taught not to walk behind moving cars and to look both ways before we cross the street?  Are video games to blame for the complete lack of fear society seems to have of moving cars?  Every time I am backing out of a parking spot someone will just saunter by regardless of the fact that I might not see them and might not stop.  Yes, legally it would be my fault but then I wouldn't be dead.  I am shocked at the number of times I have to slam on my brakes to not his someone who stepped out onto the road without checking for oncoming cars.

- I dont understand why everyone is so upset about Barack Obama being on The View.  It was essentially a Barbara Walters interview right?  Sure he could be somewhere else doing something else but he chose to let America know where he was for that hour of his presidency.  Who knows what he gets up to the rest of the time!

- Do I need to point out to the media that Chelsea Clinton is not JFK Jr?

- We are having a small cocktail party next weekend.  One couple still has not rsvp'd and today is the date on the invitation.  This is the first time they have been invited to our home and this is not a good first impression.  If I dont hear from them today it will be the last time they are invited to our home as I have a zero-tollerance policy when it comes to invitations.  If someone doesnt rsvp they are never invited again simply because I don't surround myself with people who dont have even the most basic manners and who will cause resentment.  Disregarding an invitation is the fastest way to tell me you aren't in my league.

- Where did July go?

- I bought a GPS the other day and it is a fun little toy!  I will never waste time searching for a gas station again!

- A friend of mine has been dating a girl for a couple of months and he called me the other night to tell me she is pregnant and he proposed.  Turns out she was still holding the damp pregnancy test when he coughed up a ring he bought years ago for another girl (Yup he just gave his bride-to-be and mother of his unborn child an engagement ring he bought for someone else!).  As of right now she is 3-4 weeks pregnant and has the fabulous news plastered all over her facebook - she convinced him she has to go public in case anyone at her work comprimised the confidentiality clause they all signed upon being hired - she would have to tell them she is pregnant in case she has to refuse to do certain tasks.  I've seen cats mark their territory with less efficiency.  I suspect this girl - who is 39 by the way and a nurse so she knows a thing or two about reproduction and ovulation - recently read How To Trap a Man and put the system into action the second she finished chapter 4.  I asked him if he is sure this is the girl he wants to spend the rest of his life with - the response was 'I'm pretty sure' and 'I think so'.  These things never end well.

- I have yet to play a round of golf this summer - the days are flying by!

- The Suburban Prince has almost finished the garage overhaul.  There is just one section of wall left to be painted and more shelving will be built to fill it.  By Labour Day weekend I will be pulling my car into the garage!  No more trudging through the snow while carrying a 30lb child to the car!

- We got a new washer and dryer last weekend which makes me so happy!  The old set came with the house and I have hated them for 4 years!  The washer was a front loader and they always stink.  The dryer chewed up clothes which meant I had to hang up and iron anything I didn't want ripped to shreds.  It had quite the appetite for Izod polos!  The new set has a top loading washer which is what I grew up with and what we have in our other house - it was so nice to run the first load I almost started crying!

- The Little Prince is talking up a storm!  He is learning new words all the time and is repeating full sentences.  All of our hard work with the language specialist has paid off!  When we leave his room after changing his diaper he says 'Bye bye poopoos!'.

- I went to a Rotary meeting the other night and everyone was very friendly and welcoming!  It is a much happier place than the sorority I checked out.  Everyone spoke to me and we had a great time chatting about summer and all of the activities Rotary does.  I am looking forward to going again!

Have a fabulous day!

I love your random thoughts!!!

I didn't even know people were upset about Obama being on The View. Jeeze, your damned if you do and damned if you don't.

The Chelsea Clinton converage is insane. Poor girl. Running around our hot city in a trench and huge hate. I am sure she just wants to be left alone!

I cannot beleive that about your friend and his GF/ring/new baby. Wow.

I am sure there were lots of people in 1962 who were happy :)

Have a great weekend!

what a list!
The prego bit got me...YIKES! I wonder what she will tell everyone when she finds out the ring was not bought with "her" in mind!

Oh, and the hubs and I are free next weekend and would be more than happy to fill the non-RSVPing-couples spot......just sayin'

Have a great weekend!

While I applaud your friend for wanting to be more than just "a baby daddy", I believe it was just a knee jerk reaction to the news. Hopefully, they won't rush the marriage part of it all.

And in my next life I want to be a 1960's male executive. I want to be able to go to work and drink all day. That would flippin' rock.

Oh yeah, people who don't RSVP to me never get invited back either. It's rude. It doesn't help you plan if you think someone may or may not be there....a simple phone call or emal goes a long way!!

The preggo GF story sounds like the makings of a hot mess. But I wish them the best of luck.

Not RSVPing is just tacky.

I have to agree withyou on th efront loaders ... we bought a pair "thinking" it would be easier for me and thus I could take on some of my own laundry needs - it turns out that its actually just as - if not harder to get things in and out. The actual washing I'm not too sure about ... and luckily we found some product that actually keeps ith washer smelling fresh - when used 1-2 times in a water only cycle.

I can't imagine being given a re-cycled diamond! His ex-must have really disliked him to return the diamond... hmmm

How difficult is it for someone to RSVP ... It is a privilege to be invited to someone's home - which should be accepted or declined with respect. I'm with Trish ... if they aren't coming - we would be happy to take their invite... don't they realize the fantastic hostess you are!!!!

Love the random thoughts ...XO HHL

Love the randomness of your thoughts!

• I am sure it will not be a surprise to you that I have not watched Mad Men. But I do know there were plenty of happy people in the 60’s!
• I have noticed that pedestrians seem to have an “I dare you” attitude toward drivers. It really annoys the heck out of me. Just the other day a young man looked right at me and stepped out in front of me so he could cross the street (jaywalk).
• It seems to me that no matter what any president does, people find things to complain about. It does not matter whether they voted for him or not.
• The media always goes overboard with coverage. I have become quiet adept at tuning it all out!
• I am also sure you will not be surprised that I agree with you regarding RSVP’s. I have had occasions when someone did not RSVP but showed up. Needless to say, they were never issued another initiation.
• July had flown by almost as fast as the speed of light!
• True story – A man I was dating proposed to me with the ring he had selected for his former girlfriend! I was appalled. I knew it was the same ring because I had seen it in his closet. He never had the chance to propose to her and it was still gift wrapped (albeit a little rumpled). I already had misgivings about the relationship and that was my clue to get out while I could.
• I agree with you, I prefer top loading washers. The front loaders look great, but I have heard so many complaints about them.
• 'Bye bye poopoos!' - too cute! I am so happy to hear that the Little Prince is talking up a storm. I can only imagine your joy.
• Glad to hear you enjoyed the Rotary meeting and will be going again.
• I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Mazal on the new appliances. They are always like a breath of fresh air, at least for the first couple of weeks. :)

You might call the non-RSVPers. I know, not your style but something might have happened and if not it could be fun to catch them off guard then you'd know for sure whether they were cocktail party worthy in the future. ;)

Wonderful news about the little prince. I know your heart must be so full. Have a wonderful weekend. :)xoxo

Haha, I love your posts like these! I agree with your Chelsea Clinton comment!! Also good luck with your party... and I too have no tolerance for people who don't have the courtesy to RSVP.

I think every President is damned if you do,damned if you don't. I think The View is tacky and annoying but I know it reaches a group of people who do not watch evening programs regularly. And really, who cares. But again, can't please everyone.

And I feel bad for Chelsea. Everyone is looking down on her for having such an elaborate wedding. Well her parents aren't using public funds. They want to lavish their daughter. They deserve that. She's such a humble and good person. If they can afford it,good for them.

I also feel badly for all the other brides getting married tomorrow. The security and media has swallowed up the town and now its near impossible for anyone else to even drive down main roads.

Not RSVP-ing is so rude. But manners have just fallen off the face of the earth lately. Sad! Manners are important life skills.

Congrats on the new washer/dryer.

The situation your friend is in doesn't sound good. I hope it turns out well for him.

Great Post - where to begin. I love Mad Men because all of the characters or so flawed (and because of the decor). I want a GPS. What's with the no RSVP? 3-4 weeks preggers and posting - no. I would prefer to hear she had a cocktail. Yay for Little Prince. Have a good cocktail party and weekend. XO AG

You are so funny! Perhaps your non RSVP couple has been traveling a lot this summer like we have. I have found mail and bills that were forgotten simply because we've been rushing from one thing to the next. I do agree that it's impolite not to respond, but perhaps it was not intentional rudeness.

I think Mad Men is an interesting study of character. Times have changed, but people are still much the same. It makes me sad that Betty is so cold and Don has so many affairs. Sometimes it's hard to watch!

Yes, where DID July go?! I can't believe school is about to start!

Great entries! Not unlike questions and answers I got to know you a little bit better - which I really liked - and also what is happening in your kingdom. Thanks!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Wow. That's a LOT of random thoughts!

Bye-bye poopoos? Made me spew coffee. What a hoot! I love (and miss) that wonderful stage when they are learning to talk.

I have zero tolerance for people with bad manners as well. I really don't like it when I spend hundreds of dollars on wedding gifts & then never receive a thank you note. What are their mothers teaching them? Nothing?

I've been wanting a GPS for some time now, since I've always been known as *wrong way Liz*. What brand did you buy?

I don't even know what to say about your friend. That is one awkward (weird) situation. As friends, we've tolerated many wives we didn't like, but they always seem to go away eventually, leaving our friends much the wiser. Sadly, that's all that can come of it.

People will always whine about the president... a job I wouldn't take for all the money in the world.

In our small city of 110,000, people know better than to walk in front of or behind moving vehicles. Out here, there is no challenge. They just get killed....

I just ordered the Mad Men seasons on Netflicks. The way everyone talks about it, I feel like it's time to get watching!!

Love this post. Poor Chelsea! I saw a few photos of the wedding tonight and she looked radiant and beautiful! As for President Obama, I really don't care where he goes:) I totally agree with you...if I invite someone to my home and they don't bother to respond, they will not be invited back again!!! Happy weekend SP!

I love my GPS, too. It has helped me out so many times! Also, I couldn't agree more about people just walking in front of (or behind your car). I'm scared I'm going to accidentally hit someone that's in my blind spot in a parking lot or something!

I agree with your Chelsea comment. Enough already.

Also, it is so rude when people don't RSVP. It's such a simple, easy thing to do. I don't understand it.
