The Sultan's Tent

Don't forget to enter my Flower Power Giveaway!  You could win your own custom made flower!

As you may know I have quite the passion for all things Moroccan.  I love the time I spent there and have many fond memories of all of the places we visited.

My love of Morocco began when I was in my early 20's.  There was a little restaurant above a row of stores (at Yonge and Yorkville) called The Sultan's Tent.  I used to love going there for dinner!  It was so cozy and authentic (looking back now I realise it really was authentic!) and the food was always yummy.  It was run by a couple and their family so the experience was always warm and personable.

The original Sultan's Tent.  This amazing place was warehouse space turned into a restaurant!

Back in 2002 The Sultan's Tent closed when the building was slated for demolition - that corner of Toronto doesn't even look the same anymore!  There is a high rise in it's place.

Fortunately the 'concept' was purchased from the original owner and the new Sultan's tent was opened on Front Street with a whole new look....the menu has remained true to the classic Moroccan flavours with new more mainstream additions.

The entrance to Cafe Moroc

I love the camels tucked in every corner!  I need palm trees for my living room!

The bar - check out the lanterns hanging from the ceiling!
We always called the souk in Marrakesh 'Pier 1 Exports'

This is the restaurant section - along the back wall you can see private rooms - the curtains can be pulled across!  Romantic!

I love the colours - I spy another camel!

I was reminded of The Sultan's Tent last week when Fabulous - Pasta Not Included blogged about going to the one in Calgary!  I have decided we will be eating Moroccan food for our anniversary in September!

If you should visit Toronto and we get together we must go there for the experience and yummy food!

Have a fabulous day!

Wow, that looks fantastic. I wish I lived near it! I went to someplace similiar in Anguilla, but the detail in the pictures you posted looks even more fabulous!

I can remember the Sultant's Tent - restaurant in Yorkville - I was there a couple of times with friends and it was so amazing ... they had Belly dancers. Haven't been to the new location.

Yes, that whole area looks so much different even as far back as only 3 years ago. HHL

I've never had Moroccan food, but I love Moroccan themed decor...the colors, the plushness...the sexy vibe. Persian decor is another favorite of mine.

Have a great weekend!

oh wow -- i have a fascination with Morocco too!! Seems like watching SATC2 was worth it for the scenery alone, right? This place looks so authentic! Don't laugh, but my favorite place at Disney's Epcot Center is Morocco -- I made mr prep eat there 2x on our last trip! (hey, it's the closest i'm going to get for a while!) ;-)

If you ever come to San Francisco, be sure and visit Aziza. I've never been, but I hear it's fantastic Moroccan food. Don't know if it's as sumptuous as those photos though:).

What a fascinating place! I need to see if there are any Moroccan restuarants (authentic) near me.
