Life and other trials

I still have some Olympic mittens! If you would like a pair please email me - if you don't hear back from me please check your spam folder as I reply to every email.

A little clue. I am going to be entertained by Mrs Lovett 3 times in the next 10 days. Any guesses?

The last week has been so stressful. The old tenants moved out and left our house in such a horrible condition I can only assume they are the dirtiest, filthiest pigs I have ever met in my life. On top of that they have been incredibly nasty to us while we try to get all of this sorted out. Fortunately the new tenants are amazing and have been a huge part of getting this mess sorted out. They move in this weekend and I am sending a bottle of Cliquot to the house for them on Sunday.

Another thing that is stressing me out is the Little Prince's lack of verbal skills. It is not something I have ever blogged about - I really don't want this to be another mom blog but it is a part of my life, my struggle and I feel it is important to put out there. The Little Prince is 22 months and doesn't speak. He repeats things but wont use words to express himself. 3 weeks ago I started making phone calls to different agencies - I was amazed at how helpful people were! I was passed around a bit but I did get valuable information from everyone I spoke to including public health nurses, speech pathologists and child development case workers. We were assigned a case worker who will be our advocate until the Little Prince is 18. We spoke last week and she is so amazingly nice - the perfect type of person for working with children and their moms who have their emotions way too close to the surface. So today the Little Prince is going to be evaluated so we can be referred to the right agencies and doctors. Wish us luck! If you suspect your child is missing milestones please contact your local agencies - start with the public health nurse. I was amazed at how fast they leapt on this and got us in the system and on the road to catching up!

Have a fabulous day!

First thing's first- I added your button to my blog FINALLY today! I've had you on my blog roll for awhile, but I'm just now getting everyone's buttons added : )

It's great that you are were able to get a great case worker. I'm sure everything will go well, but you and your family will definitely be in my thoughts over the coming months!

And glad you are taking LP for an evaluation. There is so much money out there to help and very little is taken advantage of, mainly because people do not even know!

So glad you have your tenant situation straightened out and glad to hear you are getting some assistance with LP. My little one was in a similar situation, mumbled a bit but really didn't start talking till way past he was supposed to. He was well over 2 1/2 years old by the time he actually uttered the word 'mama'. So I was a basket case for awhile thinking about everything that could be causing this lack of speech progression. We too, went through a battery of tests and assessments, trying to find the route to take with our little guy. Unfortunately (at the time), all the tests and assessments came back inconclusive, they couldn't find anything "wrong" (I hate that word!)with him. He eventually started talking on his own and now he never knows when to stop! (he is 3 1/2 now). You know where to find me if you need to talk! :)
On a lighter note, there is a little something for you over at my blog, hope you have a minute to check it out!

I am so sorry you have had to deal with tenant madness! I just love that you have been on a dog sled, let alone drug behind one! It is on my life goals list! Hope you have a wonderful day!!

My 17 month old is slow with words - doctor says she just will do it when she is ready... my younger brother said NOTHING until he was 4 and went through so many tests and doctors and all it was, was he just didn't want to talk. Some babies are just silly and I hope yours is like that! Good luck and would love to hear what they say since we are dealing with something similar!!

I keep telling Hubs to buy me a pair of mittens. Maybe I will leave this blog post up tonight for him to see....

LP-My bff has dealt with this to the fullest, if you want to talk to her please let me know, but know my husband (who is a 44 yr old surgeon) was diagnosed with Autism at 4, as he would not speak. Breathe, I'm here for you. xoxo

Sounds like I am not the only one who needs to be taken out for a night of drinks and dinner! I can so relate to your tenant woes. Last year I had an issue with mean and nasty tenants but I now have some decent tenants in there.

Looks like your persistence paid off in getting assistance for LP. Good for you. Hopefully, it will be something simple which he will outgrow.

After reading your comment I was intrigued and I tried finding a recipe for Moroccan Caviar but could not find one. Do you have a recipe for it?

Sorry you have had such a trying week. There is nothing worse when we are worried as moms. My friend's son wouldn't utter a word until he was 3. The Dr. tested his hearing. It was fine. One day he yelled out his first word - 'No!' He is applying to medical school this year and is brilliant. Everything in its own time and purpose. You just never know. The best of luck with your prince. Keep us informed, please. :) xoxo

GS is 26 months and does not speak. 6 months of speech and nothing. Ent says all good. Seeing another ENT specialist this week. Child is extremely physically active so speech is not important to him but glad they are getting it checked out. Glad you are staring early too. Trust me when they talk we can both celebrate!

My oldest went to speech when he was 6 mo old because he had delayed language (he had maybe 30 words at his 2 yrs check up and he was supposed to have way more than that. He had several ear infections as an infant and my ped thought that may have delayed his speech.

He is an excellent student and never even qualified for speech when he started K. Early intervention is key and it sounds like you are totally on the ball. Best of luck!

Good for you on getting on this... My youngest has dyslexia and I started getting on top of it when he was five - when everyone else said I was worrying too early. Guess who was right on target? The Mom!!!

Well gosh, I learned something new today! I have eaten a couple different versions of eggplant dip but have never heard it referred to as Moroccan Caviar. It sounds much more exotic! Thanks for the recipe!

My brother was 3 years old when he finally spoke a few words. I'm sure my mother was so worried about him, but he came around and nothing was wrong him mentally. He was also a better student than I was and truly one of the brightest in class.

My fingers are crossed for you that everything goes well for the Little Prince! Sending you good vibes from NYC!

Good for you that you acted on your instincts, I am impressed that you got such a quick response from the professionals... keep us in the loop as to his progression.
I do not think that Einstein spoke until he was 3...or maybe that was when he first walked..I cannot remember exactly, getting fuzzy brain here!

You definitely needed to stay on top of it. When our daughter was about the same age, she still didn't talk to where anyone understood anything she said. Apparently, she'd had so many bad ear infections (along w/ a high threshold for pain) that she had a small amount of hearing loss. Once she started talking, we wished she'd stop, LOL! She's always used her outside voice to this day, which we believe will come in handy as a trial lawyer, right? I will say they loved her in theater school...

Anyway, as cute as it was, she couldn't say her r's properly so I took her to Speech Therapy at the hospital when it became time. Luckily, the speech pathologist was a friend, so we kept in close contact throughout the process and she speaks (& hears) beautifully today.

That said, I always talked to both babies even more than I talk on my blog, so it only stood to reason that they would both be talkers, right? Yup. Now I can't get them to shut up, which thrills me to death. Son was a bit slow talking as well. As it turned out, he was busy growing into the upper percentile in height & weight. Who knew?

I do have to admit that here in the US I sure wouldn't ever want a case worker on my child although I know they aren't the same in Canada. It's lucky that you found someone who cares so much. Now keep those eyes & ears peeled! I send you my best wishes...

Phooey! I also meant to mention that her Pediatrition told me that she was *tongue-tied* during her first well baby visit. Before I had a chance to question, the good old doctor (was my hubby's growing up) had already clipped that little membrane under the tongue, throwing me into total shock. The daughter wailed for maybe one or two minutes then she never looked back, LOL! She's entering law school this Fall, so I guess the doctor was right...

So glad that some awesome bloggers were able to relate to your situation and hooray for a great case worker who I am sure is going to be oh so helpful with Little Prince!

My previous comment did not take! I like Pink Martini's response and I wish you all the best with your son! We have a home being rented and I pray the tenants are not pigs. I've heard so many horror stories like yours. They should be ashamed!
