Surviving a winter wonderland

Life here in the 'burbs is a bit boring right now.  We have had so much snow in the last two weeks that we sometimes have trouble getting out and about.  The advantage of living at the top of a hill is not worrying about floods...the disadvantage, everything is downhill...down an icy hill...by a river.  The upside is I have been forced to do a little bit of meal planning in case I cant get out easily....I actually planned, shopped for and cooked for three days straight!  That's a bit of a miracle around here as I have often found it too hard to cook with the Little Prince around but he has learned to stay behind the kitchen table when I am opening the oven so now I can actually work in the kitchen without worrying about him.

Because I have been a bit snowed in I havn't been doing very much in the way of fun activities...no lunches, events, snooty pursuits.  My babysitter even had to cancel on me for a couple of months as she has classes on the same night at my Rotary meetings so I have been absent for a little while now.

There is something to be said for January's cold snowy weather.  There is always so much to be done in the house and the temptation to go out is squashed by -30 degree days.  My closets are organized, the drawers are becoming less and less full.  The laundry is all done and the Christmas decor was packed away weeks ago.  The basement renovation has been coming along nicely as the contractors are happy to be working in a nice heated space rather than outside building house frames.

We have had to dig paths for our little dog to get around the backyard.  I let him out the other day and he vanished in a snow drift.  We have to keep shoes at the back door in case he gets 'stuck' with cold toes and cant make it back to the door.  Yes, all the males in my life are a little tender and fragile.  Scottish women are strong for everyone, keep families together and rescue cold dogs from winter.

I keep thinking I should be creating fun, but to be honest, I just dont want to!  I am enjoying my hibernation and think I will limit my outings to one a week while focusing inward.

Have a fabulous day!

I don't know how you do it. I'm just not cut out for cold weather.

Things are about the same here. In just over a week, it'll be a full month since I've set foot in the city. One trip a week to my small-town grocery store for milk, that's it. I didn't think it was possible but I'm actually enjoying the challenge of waiting out the winter!!

I smiled when you mentioned that you lived on the top of a hill and the disadvantage is that everything is downhill...great if you've got a toboggan :)

you've got a lot of snow to contend with so hibernating sounds about right to me...I hope that you have a good book to read...and there are hundreds of blogs.

Those photos are beautiful! I love winter, but it is fun to do a bit of hibernating here and there. I usually enjoying getting out and skiing, but recently with all of this super cold weather, it's much more fun to stay indoors with hot cocoa, good tv and pajamas on. :)

We're much the same here in Bridgewater NS but not quite as much snow and not quite as cold. We're a balmy -17 deg celcius (1.4 deg Farenheit). But yeah; I hibernated all weekend. SOUP TIME!

I do want to hibernate...I long for it but baby I have to trudge out in the stuff every blessed day. It takes me about an hour to gather the wood for the fireplace and get all the critter fed. Who the heck needs a gym when I've got the Ponderosa! Heeeheehehe!

God bless ya and have a warm cozy day sweetie!!!

I so relate to the being snowed in ... and yes, it does give us the opportunity to look inwards and get some of the "basics" in order...

We'll be ot enjoying afternoon tea in the city before we know it!

Stay warm...HHL

I wish I could have afternoon tea with you and "High Heeled Life" in the city.

That's a lot of snow, but I have to say that the first picture you showed was absolutely gorgeous. I would love to go there.

I am right there with you! I'm fine staying in and working on projects at home in this weather. I've been wanting to get to the mall for three weeks, and have still yet to go. Unless I'm going to the gym or work, I'm home hibernating. I actually have to plan a trip to the mall (all of ten minutes away) this weekend to buy some "surgery pants" from LuluLemon. I doubt I'll be in anything but longewear for a few weeks...fine by me! More hibernating!

This winter has been crazy! The snow and cold is driving me nuts! I find myself not wanting to do much as I don't want to venture out.

I have been doing a lot of organizing around the house, too. It feels pretty good.

Hope you're having a great day!

Wow! You guys really got dumped on! We still haven't had more than 3-4 flakes of snow all winter, so I'm just a tad envious. I too, like to hibernate when it gets really cold. I always have something in the pantry or the freezer that we can live on for several weeks, which I guess would make me *gatherer*...

The first photo is just beautiful ~ love the store fronts.

We have yet another storm arriving tomorrow afternoon. I'm trying to embrace winter and enjoy the season {I'll let you know how long this mind game works}!

Stay warm ~

Brrr. If I had to deal with snow like that, I too would hibernate! Well actually, I would take full advantage and keep warm by baking, baking and more baking!

That is so much snow! The whole city shuts down here in Alabama if we get more than just a grass dusting!

I'm still trying to get a handle on the whole meal planning thing - I can imagine there's no better way to conquer it than out of necessity!
