How to look good dressed!

Just a few more days left to enter my November Giveaway!

I have a friend. We all have this friend. Someone who tries really hard but just cant seem to look polished and chic. We can have on the exact same outfit but she just looks rumpled and frumpy. I so want to give my friend some advice. Just simple tips to help polish her look but I am worried I would offend her and make her feel self conscious. If she ever asked me for my advice here is what I would tell her....

1. Buy clothes that fit. Wearing something too small or too big really doesn't do anything for anyone. If your clothes fit at the thigh but are too big at the waist have them tailored. I don't think there are many people who can walk into a store and fit perfectly into every item! Shop for the largest part of your body and tailor the rest.

2. Wear a good bra. Wear a good bra in the right size! Bubbies spilling out over the top of a bra is not attractive unless you have perfect porn star bubbies! (Even then it isn't quite the look a suburban wife and mom usually goes for!) A good bra in the right size will....yes, lift and separate! It will also take 10lbs off the way you look!

3. Invest in an iron. No one really loves to iron but freshly pressed clothes look really good. I set up the dvd player with some episodes of my favourite shows and get to work! I can iron 6 or 7 shirts in less than an hour and I don't usually rush. One hour a week ironing could polish up any one's appearance with a week's worth of crisp outfits!

4. Stand up straight. Do a posture check 10 times a day and you will find yourself standing up straight just by habit! Good posture always improves the look of any outfit!

Maybe someday I will be able to tell my friend she could look so much better - perhaps an anonymous note slipped under her door!

Have a fabulous day!

This is absolutely perfect Miss Princess, all four relatively easy to accomplish, and some, if not all, are frequently overlooked.

Hope your weekend is wonderful,
tp

Great tips... I love to iron... can't leave the house with a crease in my clothes.

You are so right! I am a firm believer of fit and that everyone should have a tailor on speed dial. Excellent job!

Okay! Right! Sure! So, my wardrobe is wrinkly and I have a large thighs! You could have just casually told me instead of blogging to the entire world! That's just not cool, Princess. I think you owe me a couple of pieces of your chocolate!!

Awesome advice. I TRY to follow it all, but my downfall is my posture. I've always been tall. I finally realize now that that's nothing to be ashamed of, but int he meantime I've fallen into the terrible habit of slouching so as not to be noticed. Time to get a pile of books balanced on my head and start practicing!!

Those are great tips that ANYONE can benefit from. Might I add....toss worn shoes, worn shoes can ruin a wonderful outfit.

Nicely put. I recently ran across a photo editorial in my favourite magazine. The model was wearing a knit cashmere RL dress. And was obviously without a bra. Ruined what could have been a perfect look.

Oh, and I agree with Domestic Goddess, a bit of shoe polish really works wonders. I do Mrs. E.'s when she's not looking.
