Meeting Diana Gabaldon

My Thanksgiving giveaway ends tonight! Please don't miss your chance to win the pink pumpkins!

The other night we went into the city to meet Diana Gabaldon. She is the author of the Outlander books and the woman behind the very long story of Jamie and Claire Fraser. This is the 7th book in the series and we are sure there will be at least 2 more. These books are 500-800 pages each so they are perfect for anyone who likes to spend a lot of time with the characters they love.

My friend B was supposed to go with me but unfortunately her little boy was diagnosed with pneumonia that day and was very very sick. She called me sobbing because she was so scared and also because she wouldn't get to meet Diana Gabaldon (again) and get her new book signed. Being the wonderful friend I am I got her book from her and took it with me so at the very least she would have a signed copy for her collection. Fortunately the Suburban Prince was home that evening so I didn't have to go alone so we packed up the Little Prince and got on the highway. Yes, the Suburban Prince will tag along to book signings to keep me company!

We had a lovely dinner before the event then made our way to the bookstore to get in line. Everyone was talking about the new book and the story we have all been following for years. The energy was excited and jovial and when Diana came in she got a round of applause then got on with signing books and answering questions. We were very close to the front of the line so we got our books signed quickly, got some nice photos and were able to get the Little Prince settled in his carseat and on his way home to bed at a fairly early hour. I heard from others on our way out that the bookstore staff was pulling people with children, pregnant women and the elderly out of the line to get them to the front so they didn't have to stand for hours - I wonder if this is standard practice because they did this when we met Rosie O'Donnell but not when we met Gordon Ramsay - we stood in line for 3 hours with the Little Prince who was 9 months old to meet him! Thank goodness I have an easy going child!

Some people go to rock concerts, we go to book signings!

Here is what I wore:

Have a fabulous day!

I remember meeting Diana at a book signing years ago at a Scottish Festival. I loved the first 3 books in her series and couldn't get beyond that for some reason. I have never forgotten what the character Jamie's farther said to him regarding keeping his virginity. I have used that line in 'the talk' with my own sons. HA! BTW, love your blog ~ just found it. :)
