For my birthday this year I told the Suburban Prince I wanted to go to high tea instead of dinner. I did some research and found a few places offering this sort of thing and off we went, into the big city for our birthday princess tea party!
This is what our table looked like while we waited for the treats to arrive!
Who could resist?!
The perfect way to feel like a proper lady at lunch!
I love the silver tea pots and fine china - they really make lunch an event!
Ever since I told my friends about our birthday lunch they all want to do the same thing for their birthdays - I have been to a lot of tea parties this year!
If you don't have a tea shop in your town check with your local hotels, a lot of them offer a tea service ranging from $10.00 - $40.00 per person.
Since I inherited my Gran's china tea sets I have been dying to host my own tea party! This is very easy to do at home. Simply invite your friends, tell them to wear their fanciest tea dresses, make sandwiches on all sorts of breads with fillings like smoked salmon, egg, watercress. Also serve chocolate dipped fruit, scones with jam and clotted cream and little cakes in pretty colours. Of course you must have several pots of tea. This is a great chance to try some teas you wouldn't normally have at home! Top your tea party off with a nice bottle of champagne and enjoy!
There are lots of pretty invitations to choose from on sites like etsy and ebay so you can easily set the tone of your party right from the moment your friends open them!
Have a fabulous day!

High tea is wonderful. It is such a wonderful feeling to experience, as you stated, feeling like a proper lady!
I love High Tea....I surprised my mom with High Tea for mother's day a couple of years ago and it was a big hit!
xoxo!
Okay -- I love a good tea party as much as anyone. But in that first picture (of what your table looked like), I really feel like playing "One of these things is not like the other; one of these things just doesn't belong". Birthday date with husband? Hmmmm? Don't you leave the children behind when you go on a date? Hmmmm?
I love it! So...when are you hosting your next tea party? Maybe you can have one that I could attend the next time I come up that way - looking like sometime in summer 2010.
Mini you tell me well in advance of your visit and we will have a tea party!
That sounds lovely! I would trade a high tea for birthday dinner any year!
What a fun idea! I love trying different kinds of tea as I am usually a coffee drinker, plus I love the idea of all the treats and scones!
I've always wanted to do this! My fiance said that they offer a high tea at the Grand Floridian in Disney World and that we're going! I can't wait!
What a fabulous idea!!! I have always wanted to host a tea party for Ellie's birthday and maybe this will be the year!!! I would love to have all of the little girls dressed up and drinking tea with pastries. So adorable!!! XOXO
What a wonderful way to celebrate! My husband I went to high tea when we were in Victoria a couple of years ago ~ it was simply lovely!
I think you're on to a fun new way to celebrate birthdays for big girls! : )
