Years ago, when I was single, I dated a man who is American. His mom lived in NY and from what I could gather came from 'old money'. She was a very generous woman and always showered me with really nice gifts.
The last gift she gave me was for Christmas 2001 and to be honest her son and I had broken up before it arrived on my doorstep. I know, I know...I should've returned it but I just couldn't! It was the nicest purse I had ever owned (up to that point - my next relationship was the keeper and now my closet is filled with lots of nice purses.) and I just didn't have the heart to part with it.
Here in Canada we dont have a lot of same same brands and this D&B purse was/is very exotic! I always felt like a million bucks when I carried it. It goes with most of my winter wardrobe and while I was a working girl in the big city I thought of it as my 'power purse'.
8 years later and I am wondering...can I still use this purse? Is it still fashionable enough? Is it so classic I could use it forever? I dont know! So I am asking you to weigh in and tell me what you think.
My style has always been very classic so I dont follow trends or buy 'this year's fashion'. Yes I have coats and other pieces of clothing that I bought back in high school - more than 20 years ago! I always take really good care of my wardrobe so my clothes last a long time - much like this purse. It is still in the same condition it was when I got it!
Here is a photo of the purse - I couldn't find it in the right colour but the one I have is hunter green and tan. I took the shoulder strap off because I'm not a purse-over-the-shoulder kind of person.
Thoughts? Advice?
Thanks!
Have a fabulous day!

I think D & B is very classic. If you still love it, carry it!
Yes, you can still use it.
D&B never goes out of style.
Or maybe it does but I don't follow the whole stylish thing. I wear whatever is comfortable.
Okay! Here's my take on things.
First of all, I hate you because you can still fit in the classic clothes you wore 20 yr ago! I mean, seriously hate you.
Second, I hate you because you dated an American from "old money".
Third, I hate you because you own a Dooney & Bourke purse and I don't.
Next, I LOVE you because even after you broke up with the American, you kept the purse. (You probably kept the better of the two.)
Finally, if you love the purse and it's not shabby looking, keep using it! If you don't want to drag it out this year but can't bear to part with it, pack it (gently) away for a year or two. When you take it out next, you'll probably fall in love with it all over again. If you don't want to drag it out this year and just want to have done with it, ship it immediately to me!
It's a classic, honey; it will never go out of style!
I remember how much I loved my first D&B...chocolate brown and very similar to yours. Classic is classic...and its how you wear, not what you wear it that makes you fabulous.
This is a very classic D&B style and is still very relevant today.
Absolutely still wear it. My rule is if it makes you feel good it's always in style. Except maybe in the case of scrunch socks. Ah ha
Thank you everyone!
LOL Even you Sandy :O)
I will bring my purse out for the Autumn :O)
You can still ues the D&B bag.
It's a classic style so it will always be in style.
It's gorgeous btw!
Do you have Coach in Canada?
I would die w/o my Coach. Tee hee.
Meghan - yes we do have Coach...thank goodness!!!!
But we dont have LP or Tori Burch etc which makes me sad :O(
If you love it wear it! It is a lovely classic style! Have a sweet Sunday!x
I still have my first D&B. My husband bought it for our first Christmas that we were married. I can't carry it anymore because...well...it's just too small but I could never part with it. I say carry it proudly because even though it's not a current style its classic and we all love a vintage bag. :) XOXO
Always in style. True classic. That's what I love so much about the classic D&B, can be casual or dressed for outfit at work. Keep it and use. So classy.
I'm not a fan of the new bright D&B patterns that attarct the teens!
