50th Anniversary Party

On November 25th we held a 50th Anniversary party for my inlaws.  People came from all over - including a few I was hoping might not come!  We booked a private room in a restaurant and they did a great job of catering to my every whim, moving tables and chairs until I was happy and keeping the vodka flowing in my direction!

The dessert table all set up before guests arrived and
starting sticking their hands in the bowls.

Thank goodness they got married in December
when it's easy to get gold balls!

The cake.  The cake of my nightmares.  Long story but after hours of discussion with the decorator about what I wanted this is what she came up with...nothing really like what I described and showed her photos of.  The hedgehog and oak leaves are good...it's the right tartan...but the rest...hmm.  Oh and since she messed up the first cake she had to make a second one with less than 24 hours to go.  Everyone tells me I should be a party planner but this situation is exactly why I could never go ahead with it - my area just doesnt have quality vendors I can trust and count on.  Anyhoooooooo my inlaws had no idea what the cake was supposed to look like so they loved it.

The first cake had red around the bottom...
it's like she thought it was a Christmas cake.

The hedgehog is MIL's clan symbol and the oak leave is FIL's.

Oak leaf cookies I had shipped up from the US.
If only we had great bakers here!

Thank goodness for the Scottish bakery!  When I placed an order for 50 meringues they asked what the occassion is and when I told them it's for a 50th anniversary they offered to tint them yellow for me!  These are MIL's favourite treat!

FIL's favourite treat - Poppycock.
I feel like I need to wash my mouth out with soap.

The favour boxes and coffee service
I peeled the labels off of dozens of Fererro Rochers!

Pacokeco did all the labels, stickers, invitations etc
for me and my inlaws loved all of it!

Thank goodness that's over with!

Have a fabulous day!

It looks like an amazing night, even if some of the vendors in your area didn't cooperate! When my parents celebrate their 50th, they'll be lucky if we can pull together some fish and chips at the Anglo Club and a grocery store cake at home afterwards! The job you did takes a LOT of talent!

Everything looks amazing! You have quite the talent for event planning--maybe you'll reconsider when the Little Prince is a bit older.

Wow! Great job on the party, and the cake looks very nice! (even if it wasn't what you wanted exactly...)
You should post pics of you and the suburban prince (or King? not sure how you address him) getting your par-tay on!!!

You certainly should consider party planning...
it's always more stressful when it's a party for family...
but all looks lovely.
I think you are a very considerate DIL...kudos to you :)

Looks lovely. And I second HHL - you would make an excellent event planner. Also, if they don't have good bakers where you are . . .

Congratulations on the successful planning of the 50th Anniversary party for your in-laws! I agree with everyone else - you should definitely be an event planner! I know you had concerns about this party and I am so happy that it turned out so well. Although the cake was not up to your expectations, it looks great as does everything else.
