I woke up this morning, looked out the window and gasped a little - we are in the middle of a blizzard!
Here is my car at 9am today....
Thank you to everyone for your congratulations and comments on my 100th post! Here are the answers to the wonderful questions!
JulesTX asked if I have any siblings. No I don't. I am the only child of an only child of an only child! The Little Prince is the 4th only child in a row! So I know nothing about how siblings work as I have never seen them up close and personal. This may be why I only have 1 child!
MCW asked if the Suburban Prince ever reads my blog. Yes he does! Every day! He also suggests ideas and takes some of the photos. He is very very very supportive and loves reading my posts and all of your comments. He will occasionally read one of your blogs!
Princess Freckles and HB&HB (Congratulations on YOUR 100th post!) asked about our 'Love Story' otherwise known as how we met. I met the Suburban Prince in April of 2002 on an Internet dating site! I know! Crazy eh! We chatted online for a couple of days and spoke on the phone then met within a week of finding each other online. The Suburban Prince was so shy he hardly spoke the entire time we were together - but I thought (still do) he was so so so good looking, I stuck with it and got to the end of the date. Strangely he was too shy to say much but not too shy to kiss me...hmmmmm. A few days later we were supposed to get together again and every time we had spoken on the phone he hardly said a word. I was getting very annoyed because I happen to like some conversation! I told him I didn't think getting together again was a good idea since he doesn't seem to have anything to say to me and it would be silly to waste time on each other. Meanwhile I was close to smashing my phone with a boot because he was so cute and I really did like him but I had no idea why he wouldn't speak to me! He said 'Suburban Princess, I would like to you come to my house, have dinner with me and watch a movie.' That was it....that's all he said! I said 'Ok' and arrived for our date. Over the years he has become a lot more chatty, in fact some days I wish he would haud his wheesht! For all of you non-Scottish people that's something one's Scottish granny says when one is talking too much! We had been dating for about 4 months when he proposed on the beach over a McDonald's chicken Caesar salad. Of course I said yes! He gave me a big princess cut diamond ring to seal the deal! A year later we got married in a Masonic temple surrounded by lots of tartan (the real kind, sent over from woollen mills in Scotland), pipers and thistles. The rest, as they say, is history!
OceanDreams asked what my favourite thing is about Christmas and what my hopes are for the future. I think my favourite thing about Christmas is all of the parties and get togethers. It is so nice to see people we don't get to see all of the time and I find at this time of year people make an effort when they might not in July. For the future I hope we are all healthy and happy but beyond that I would like to have a business of some kind - perhaps own a store with a friend. As much as I love being a housewife I feel like I need to create something for myself outside of my home. I know I could never go back to working for someone else after all of these years but I think it is important for women to have something of their own. The near future will most likely see us selling one of our properties and doing more renovations on the house we live in. We want to expand the kitchen by 10 feet into the yard so that will be a big job! I hope it isn't as painful as I suspect it might be! I also hope to keep my blog going and to make lots of great friends through blogging.
Jo said we need a photo of me. I am sorry to say I don't think I will ever post photos of us on my blog. I try to keep my blog as anonymous as possible so should anyone I know ever stumble upon it they wont be able to pinpoint me as the culprit! A certain amount of anonymity allows me to be honest about my life and the people I share it with. I could hardly bitch about how someone behaved at my party this weekend if they were likely to find my blog.
Jill asked how old we were when we got married (she actually said 'y'all' so I am assuming that is plural) and what my favourite cocktail is. I was 32 and the Suburban Prince was 36 when we got married. I met him when I was 31 in 2002 - no, I'm not concerned about my age.
When I have a drink, which isn't very often, I usually go for vodka with club soda and lime but if I am out with the girls I always order something pink and fun like a Cosmo or Crantini!
Knitwit asked 'diamonds or pearls'. That is a hard one! I love both! But I guess if I had to choose only one for the rest of my life...I would have to pick diamonds.
Emma asked if there is anything I don't like about living in the 'Burbs. Plenty! I actually live beyond the 'burbs in a small town about an hour from the city. I am a city girl at heart so I have certain ideals and standards and many of the people around me do not share those standards and ideals with me. I am talking people who come to a party in their 'good sweats'....catch my drift? I miss the chic parties thrown by people who really know how to throw a party and worry what people think about them. Social pressure can do wonders for people! When we get invited to a party out here we have to bring our own cooler of drinks or we wont have anything to sit on. We also suffer from a lack of decent stores. My only option most days is Walmart and I have to go into the city for everything else. We don't have a bakery here...or a butcher etc. Don't get me wrong, it is a lovely town but the complete lack of sophistication blows me away! I see people driving around in BMWs and there are mansions around here too - I just need to figure out how to meet those people! On the plus side...we have a huge house on a big property and it cost us about 1/4 of what we would've paid for the same house in the city. The Little Prince will grow up knowing our neighbours, with friends all within 5 minutes, a big pool in the backyard, organic veggies in the garden and financial security!
Sandy asked if I will ever come to Nova Scotia to have gourmet coffee and hit the thrift stores with her. My brother-in-law actually lives very close to Halifax so I have been to NS - though I don't know if I see visiting him any time in the near future. The last time we told him we were thinking about visiting NS he told us to have a great time! Alrighty then! He usually comes up here anyway to visit his parents so we don't need to make the long trek to see him. On the other hand I would come to visit you in a heartbeat! You seem like a bundle of fun! Of course we will go to Starbucks and we can poke around the thrift stores though I have to admit I don't think I have ever been to one!
Black Labs & Lilly asked what my go to outfit is for date night with the Suburban Prince. Honestly I cant remember the last time the two of us went out alone on a date! Between swing shifts, social events, the Little Prince etc we rarely have a night together alone. Although...next week we are going to a live taping of a talk show in the city and the Little Prince will be with his grandparents all day so we will have the whole day together just the two of us! We will probably have nothing to say to each other! The lesson for all of you single girls and newlyweds...go out a lot now because once the babies come along it will be hard to date anymore!
Beth Dunn asked me what my beauty rituals are and how I stay sane. I dont know just how sane I am but I do try to keep my life in balance. I know when I need to take some time out for myself and I tell my guys I am going out and just find a spot to be alone for a while. We live near the beach so sometimes I sit in my car and watch the waves crashing in or I wander around the shops. At home I find taking the time to prepare helps a lot! The night before we go anywhere I get everything ready and waiting by the front door so when we need to go it all gets put in the car and we are off! I iron shirts in batches well ahead of when I will need them so I dont have to rush when I am trying to get out the door. Running a tight ship is the path to sanity! As for my beauty rituals...hmmm I dont know that I really have any specific ones but I am a big believer in exfolliating and moisturizing. I use good products like Mario Badescu along with Oil of Olay and St Ives. I should say I never go to bed with makeup on but it has happened from time to time - sometimes I just dont feel like washing my face at midnight after an evening of champagne cocktails!
Thank you for all of your questions! I had fun answering them!
Have a fabulous day!
